Former Gov. Jennifer Granholm and her husband, Dan Mulhern, will teach at the University of California-Berkeley, and together they’ll write a book about her experience leading Michigan during one of its worst economic episodes, according to Politico.com today.

The two will continue to live in Michigan, however, and are searching for a permanent home in the state, where she was governor for eight years and attorney general for four.

Since leaving the governor’s residence in Lansing they have rented in the Lansing area, where their son, Jack, attends middle school.

Democrat Granholm, 51, also will be a paid contributor to NBC’s “Meet the Press.” She and Mulhern have joined the Keppler’s Speakers Bureau for speaking engagements, she told Politico.com in an interview

Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm (D) says she’s once again on President Obama’s short list for appointment to the Supreme Court. In an interview with CNN, the term-limited governor says she has talked with people in the Obama administration about the upcoming nomination to replace retiring Justice John Paul Stevens.

“It's a great honor to be on -- considered on the list,” said Granholm who went through this process last year with the opening that went to Sonia Sotomayor. She did not say if she’s spoken with the President who Fox News reported this past week held informal discussions with some of the people he’s considering.

Granholm, like Obama, holds a law degree from Harvard and appeals to some people who want the President to pick someone who is not currently serving as a federal appellate court judge. All nine members of the current Court were federal appellate judges before their elevation to the high court.

Granholm shares that interest saying, “I think it's a very wise move to consider experience that is not just from the judicial monastery because -- I mean not just me but Janet Napolitano, people that have applied the laws that Congress enacts, that have seen their impact on people, that -- you know, I mean I'm from the most challenged state in the country. And, you know, for somebody to experience and see what everyday people are feeling and experiencing out there, I think is an important thing to consider.”

Last Wednesday, key senators including Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) met with Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the White House. On Fox News Sunday, McConnell said the president didn’t tip his hand about the pick. McConnell also passed on the opportunity to publically support someone for the lifetime appointment. He even made light of the situation saying his support would work against an endorsement. “I don't want to eliminate somebody's possibility of being on the Supreme Court by suggesting that I might find them a worthy selection,” McConnell said before adding, “I think it would not do them any good, put it that way.”

Michigan hunters and meat producers had a collective cow today at the news Gov. Jennifer Granholm had issued an official proclamation declaring Saturday "Michigan Meatout Day."

The proclamation was labeled “unconscionable and insensitive to livestock and dairy farmers by the Michigan Farm Bureau.

“It’s inconceivable to us that the governor could stoop to this level of telling people what they should and shouldn’t eat based on the philosophies of 'food elitists,' ” said Farm Bureau President Wayne Wood.

Michigan United Conservation Clubs posted an image of the proclamation on its Facebook page, quickly eliciting a call from members to observe Meatout Day by having a massive barbecue on the Capitol lawn.

Granholm’s proclamation, issued at the urging of vegetarian activists, cited the benefits of a plant-based diet and the increasing availability of alternatives to meat and dairy products for vegans and vegetarians. Following a series of “whereases,” Granholm encourages “the residents of this state to choose not to eat meat” on Saturday.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy spoke out this morning about leaks to the media regarding plea deal negotiations in Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's criminal case

"It is the policy of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office not to comment on matters related to negotiations in the Kilpatrick case or any other case," Worthy said in a statement today. "Reports regarding negotiations in print and broadcast media are not coming from my office. There are other sources, who, for some unknown reason, wish to give erroneous information to the press. We caution the public to remember this."

Worthy did not specify any of the inaccuracies.

Sources close to the investigation have told the Free Press that whether the mayor serves jail time has been the major sticking point to the negotiations. The mayor has insisted that he not serve any time behind bars.

Kilpatrick's ability to offer his resignation as part of a plea deal could disappear as soon as Wednesday, when Gov. Jennifer Granholm is to begin a hearing on whether to remove the mayor for misconduct.

Adding to the drama, a hearing in the mayor's assault case was set for 2 p.m. Tuesday in Wayne County Circuit Court, ostensibly to reconsider the terms of Kilpatrick's bond. But the hearing, one day before Granholm's proceedings, could also provide a venue for an announcement of a plea deal.

Kilpatrick -- whose new lawyers have been in talks since last week with Worthy's assistants -- is apparently willing to plead guilty to some of the eight felonies stemming from a police whistle-blower trial last year, but he does not want to return to jail, the sources said. He was jailed overnight earlier this month for violating bond.

A guilty plea to a felony would cost him his job and his law license.

The talks do not cover assault charges brought by Attorney General Mike Cox, who accuses Kilpatrick of shoving investigators trying to serve a subpoena on his friend Bobby Ferguson in July. In that case, Cox's prosecutor made an offer for Kilpatrick to resign, plead guilty to one felony and see the other assault charge dismissed -- with sentencing left to the judge.
