An anonymous hacker group's threat to shut down the BART website did not happen at the promised hour Sunday, but the group hacked into an external BART website that has more than 50,000 email subscribers and posted its logo on the home page.
Transit officials said they will close down the MyBart website, which is run by an external vendor, and inform all the members that their names, phone numbers and email addressed may have been compromised.
The transit agency remained on alert and was also working to thwart plans by protesters to disrupt the Monday afternoon commute at the Civic Center station in downtown San Francisco.
"We're making preparations to try to prevent any unsafe conditions on the platform," said BART spokesman Jim Allison. "I'm not going to discuss any specifics, other than to say we're preparing."
In a video manifesto posted Sunday, an international computer hacking group that calls itself Anonymous or AnonyOps instructed Bay Area residents to wear red shirts, masks and bring cameras to a planned protest at 5 p.m. Monday.

Syrian Navy Ships Join Attack on Coastal City
“Bombing, shelling and shooting all night long,” said a 29-year-old resident of one besieged neighborhood who gave her name as Muhra. “Shooting all over the city and shelling over our heads. We hid inside our house and closed all the doors.”
Taking it from all sides now the Syrian people are in some deep trouble.
All that talking by the U.N. and a few Countries (the U.S. Included) has done nothing to deter Bashar al-ASSad from stopping.
With nobody willing to step in the Syrian People will either die or just give up.

In yet another escalation of its crackdown on dissent, the Syrian government unleashed navy vessels, tanks and a mix of soldiers, security forces and paramilitary fighters against the port city of Latakia on Sunday, killing at least 25 people, including three children, activists and residents said.
The attacks in Latakia marked the third weekend in a row that the government has defied international condemnations in its campaign to snuff out a remarkably resilient uprising, which began in March. The attacks have stoked fresh outrage, in part because they have come during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, traditionally a time of piety and festivity when observant Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.
The attacks grew in ferocity on Sunday, and activists and residents said for the first time that gunfire was coming from navy vessels anchored off the coast. As in Hama, activists said security forces fired anti-aircraft weapons at civilian buildings. In addition, the activists said, land line telephones and Internet connections were cut off to some neighborhoods of Latakia, a city of 650,000 that serves as Syria’s main port.

Syrian forces push into Saraqib, death toll escalates
(CNN) -- Syrian troops rolled into the northwestern city of Saraqib early Thursday morning, just hours after evening prayers there called for an end to President Bashar al-Assad's reign, an opposition group said.
Residents reported heavy gunfire soon after the troops arrived in tanks and buses, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The latest military action comes as violence erupted in other towns and amid a growing chorus of international calls for Syria's government to end its brutal drive on peaceful protesters...
After evening prayers in Hama on Wednesday, an opposition activist says demonstrators took to the streets in the southern part of the city. Security forces opened fire, killing two people, according to the activist, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons.

Meanwhile, the United States is moving toward issuing an explicit call for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, U.S. government sources told CNN Tuesday.
The move is expected to be announced in coming days after U.S. officials consult with the United Nations Security Council, the sources said. They said the question of whether to call for al-Assad to step down has been under discussion over the past few weeks, the sources said.

Rioting continues for third night in London
This is definitely more than just a few people pissed off over a shooting.

The streets of London were hit on Monday evening with a third night of violence as rioters attacked police, set fire to cars and looted shops in areas across the capital, which pressed Prime Minister David Cameron to cut short his holiday.
The districts of Peckham, Lewisham, Croydon and Deptford in south London saw violence, as well as Hackney in east London. Shops were set on fire in Peckham, a building set alight in Croydon and cars were torched in Lewisham and Deptford.
Police reported they had made arrests in the north London district of Kilburn.
Meanwhile, Cameron has decided to cut short his holiday to return to London due to the ongoing riots, his office said on Monday night.
Cameron, who is on vacation in Italy, will return overnight and hold a high-level meeting on the escalating riots on Tuesday, his office said in a brief statement.

His capture came after French and UN armored vehicles were deployed on a road close to Gbagbo's besieged Abidjan residence on Monday.

100 Bodies Found in Ivory Coast in 24 Hours

Mr Gbagbo has denied he is surrendering saying he is only negotiating a truce.
French Armed forces chief Adm Edouard Guillaud told Europe 1 radio that Mr Gbagbo had twice been on the point of stepping down - on 1 April and 4 April - before pulling back.
He said negotiations with the UN had continued through the night without result.
"Unfortunately I can't see a way out for the time being, I think it's a matter of hours... in the course of the day," he said.
"He is locked in the [presidential] residence and it remains in the possession of his supporters."

No one was immediately available for comment from the rebels group named by the military -- a faction of the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) loyal to Abdel Wahed al-Nur which walked out of peace talks in 2006 and has refused to return.
Fighting has rumbled on for eight years in the remote western territory in the face of a string of failed ceasefires, international pressure and campaigns from celebrity activists.

UN rights body urges Libya action
Yeah yeah we must do everything within our powers to stop the Violence and Bloodshed in libya, we must step in vigorously and stop this.

The United Nation's top human rights official says reports of mass killings in Libya should spur world leaders to "step in vigorously" to end the violent crackdown in Libya, and that the 47-nation body should use "all means possible".
Friday's session is the first time that the UN Human Rights Council has held a special session to discuss actions against one of its members, with Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner on Human Right, giving support for an independent panel to investigate the alleged abuses by Libyan security forces.
"Today's brutal and shocking situation is the direct outcome of a callous disregard for the rights and freedom of Libyans that has marked the almost four-decade long grip on power by the current ruler," she said.
Her comments came just hours before a UN Security Council in New York meeting that will consider actions against the government of Muammar Gaddafi, which could include sanctions.

China and Russia, traditionally reluctant to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries, have supported a statement from the security council issued on Tuesday that condemned "the repression against peaceful demonstrators,'' and demanded an "immediate end to the violence".

The United Nation's top human rights official says reports of mass killings in Libya should spur world leaders to "step in vigorously" to end the violent crackdown in Libya, and that the 47-nation body should use "all means possible".
Friday's session is the first time that the UN Human Rights Council has held a special session to discuss actions against one of its members, with Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner on Human Right, giving support for an independent panel to investigate the alleged abuses by Libyan security forces.
"Today's brutal and shocking situation is the direct outcome of a callous disregard for the rights and freedom of Libyans that has marked the almost four-decade long grip on power by the current ruler," she said.
Her comments came just hours before a UN Security Council in New York meeting that will consider actions against the government of Muammar Gaddafi, which could include sanctions.

Iran MPs want death penalty for opposition leaders

(Reuters) - Iranian lawmakers urged judiciary on Tuesday to hand out death penalties to opposition leaders for fomenting unrest in the Islamic state after a rally in which one person was killed and dozens were wounded, state media said.
Clashes broke out between security forces and protesters when thousands of opposition supporters rallied in sympathy for popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia on Monday, reviving mass protests that shook Iran after a presidential vote in 2009.
"(Opposition leaders) Mehdi Karroubi and Mirhossein Mousavi are corrupts on earth and should be tried," the official IRNA news agency quoted lawmakers as saying in a statement.
The loose term "Corrupt on Earth," a charge which has been leveled at political dissidents in the past, carries the death penalty in the Islamic Iran.
Judiciary spokesman Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei said: "Those who created public disorder on Monday will be confronted firmly and immediately."
Iranian authorities have repeatedly accused opposition leaders of being part of a Western plot to overthrow the Islamic system. The claim has been denied by Mousavi and Karroubi.
