Pakistani police discovered drug addicts held in chains at an Islamic seminary that offered rehabilitation services, and said Tuesday that young children were also sometimes shackled at the institution.
The parents of around 60 young men at the seminary in the southern port city of Karachi paid it to treat their children through a regime of Islamic instruction and worship, or simply to take them off their hands.
"They were kept there like animals," said police officer Akram Naeem.
Naeem said officers had ruled out any possibility that the seminary had links with Islamist militant groups.
Patients who tried to escape or were dealing drugs were chained together, Naeem said.
Some children as young as eight were also taking regular Islamic instruction at the seminary, said policeman Rao Anwar Ahmed. He said they too were sometimes chained, if they were disobedient.
Police arrested an administrator at the complex during the raid Monday night, which was reportedly due to a tip off.

And the award goes to... Martin Rosenthal !
Mr Rosenthal, your line of thought is exactly what is wrong in the U.S. today !
you do not have to be a big flagwaiver to be an American citizen, and really if you hate patriotic stuff, what the U.S. stands for allows you to do that also.
What would you have if we wiped out the pledge? a bunch of people and children who really do not care about this country, it would be a shame.
it is bad enough that in a lot of the border States, ethnic kids mock the pledge and do not participate, imagine if it were wiped out all together.
If it bothers you that much, there are plenty of countries you can go to that feel the same as you, you can go there, and no longer be sickened by America.

Days before the 10th anniversary of 9/11 a leader from a group in Massachusetts is calling on public schools in one town to ban students from reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, saying it has no educational value and the pressure it places on children to participate makes his “skin crawl,” The Boston Globe reported.
Martin Rosenthal, the co-chair of Brookline Political Action for Peace, or Brookline Pax, told the paper the pledge puts “kids in an uncomfortable situation” and doesn’t belong in schools.
The group, therefore, will ask town meeting voters in November to pass a nonbinding resolution on the ban in area public schools.
The pledge is recited once a week in Brookline public schools. It is said during morning announcements and children are afforded the opportunity to not participate.
Supporters of the ban say these children are often criticized by classmates and the ban would help stop the bullying.

400 rounded up in Chihuahua operation
Reports this morning are 1000 people arrested in Ciudad Jaurez, This may be related but either way it is another view of how terrible Mexico really is.
Kidnapping and Human trafficking is almost as big as the drug trade in Mexico, Most of the woman (or Girls) are sold into the sex trade throughout North America.

About 300 Chihuahua state police officers with the help of federal authorities rounded up about 400 people late Friday and early Saturday in Juárez during a special operation in search of missing children.
One missing 15-year-old girl was found in a hotel, officials said.
The search was launched under operation Alba, which was created to assure parents of missing children in the central part of the city that officials were making efforts to find the missing children.

But the youngsters are in fact helping rebel fighters in Libya to overcome Colonel Gaddafi's troops as the bitter civil war rumbles on.
Boys as young as seven have been pictured carrying automatic weapons and cleaning rifles in Misrata as rebel forces battle loyalist troops in the outskirts of Zlitan.
Although they do not appear to have been involved on the front line, the boys are clearly being trained to operate the weapons.

More than 200 Chinese children poisoned by lead
In the never ending pursuit of poisoning the Kids throughout the world, China strikes again.

(Reuters) - More than 200 Chinese children have been poisoned by lead from battery plants located too close to houses in the east of the country, state media said on Thursday, the latest in a string of heavy metal pollution cases.
After tests last month showed three children in Gaohe in Anhui province had elevated levels of lead in their blood, 280 others were subsequently checked, more than 200 of whom were found to have been poisoned, Xinhua news agency said.
Authorities have now closed both battery plants blamed for the poisoning, the report said.
One of the plants was separated from residences in Gaohe by only a narrow road, it added, in contravention of environmental protection guidelines.
Some of the children affected were just a few months old, the official news agency said.
"When she was a baby, she stayed with my in-laws in Changsha, of the central Hunan Province, and was perfectly healthy. She's been in Gaohe town for just a few months," resident Jiang Feng told Xinhua of her poisoned child.

Indiana School Removes 'Allah' From Holiday Show After Protests

An elementary school in Indiana reportedly removed a mention of Allah in its holiday show after protests from a national conservative Christian group.
Lantern Road Elementary Principal Danielle Thompson told IndyStar.com that school officials in Fishers, Ind., attempted to teach inclusiveness through the second-grade program that included portions on Christmas, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Las Posadas and Kwanzaa.
"It went off last night without a hitch," Thompson told the Web site. "Several families thought it was a nice program."
Thompson said officials removed the phrase "Allah is God," however, after the American Family Association complained about the program on its electronic newsletter. The alteration was made because no other deities were named in the program.
Shariq Siddiqui, executive director of the Muslim Alliance of Indiana, told the Web site that the decision to remove the word Allah was most certainly not inclusive.
"It's unfortunate if that was removed from the program just because of Islamophobic feelings," Siddiqui told the Web site. "Schools are a place where we should learn more about each other rather than exclude each other based on stereotypes and misconceptions."
Sorry Siddicqui , Schools are for learning important things like reading , Writing , Math , Science , And basic "Human Being" Skills , Not a place to learn about religion ! you have your Church or Mosque for that !
Siddiqui said "Allah" is the Arabic word for God and is used by Jews, Christians and others in Arabic-speaking nations.
