So nice of NATO to let the peacekeepers defend themselves, it is much better than having them killed.
A no brainer to me but apparently NATO goes into places of unrest which usually involve gunfire and firebombs, and they do not have the permission to at the very least to defend themselves?

PRISTINA, Kosovo - American and French peacekeepers were told yesterday to fire their weapons in defense if attacked at border posts on Kosovo’s northern boundary with Serbia, a day after the crossings were set ablaze by Serbs armed with firebombs, a NATO spokesman said.
There have been days of mounting tension between ethnic Albanians and minority Serbs after Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci ordered special police units to take over two disputed border posts that were previously manned by Serb members of the police under EU supervision.
One Kosovo policeman died in the operation.
“We are in command of those places,’’ NATO spokesman Captain Hans Wichter said. “If we are threatened, we have the right to use weapons.’’ He said the area was “declared a military zone,’’ meaning the alliance makes all decisions related to security.
NATO troops were attacked late Wednesday by machine guns and antitank rockets as they moved to secure the border posts, the top NATO commander in Kosovo, Major General Erhard Buehler, said. No injures were reported. They took control of the border posts yesterday.

Libyan rebels' military chief of staff slain
Ah the way of Islam, just kill your opponents.
yeah I know it is war and this is what happens but it appears he was killed while under arrest, and the arrest was a little suspicious also.
I think it would be best to pull NATO out of Libya and let all the jackasses kill each other off, it is what they seem to want.

In a terse announcement that left many questions unanswered, the president of the council said Gen. Abdul Fatah Younis and two other commanders were killed as they returned from the eastern front near Port Brega to Benghazi, the de facto rebel capital.
The Associated Press quoted a rebel military spokesman as saying rebel security officers had arrested Younis and two aides early Thursday at their operations room on the eastern front. The website of the Arab satellite channel Al Jazeera also reported that Younis had been arrested by the rebel council Thursday morning.
If Younis was indeed arrested, it raises the possibility that he was assassinated by rebel fighters.

100 Bodies Found in Ivory Coast in 24 Hours
Ethnically Motivated Murders?
Confusing to say the least, seeing as how they are all from the same area in the same country!
But whatever the reason the slaughter goes on.

A spokesman for the U.N. human rights agency said bodies were found in more than one location and most of the deaths seemed to be "ethnically motivated."
On Thursday, Ivory Coast's internationally recognized President Alassane Ouattara asked all Ivorians to refrain from acts of violence.
In a televised speech, Ouattara said his forces have set up a blockade around the presidential compound in Abidjan, where his rival Laurent Gbagbo is barricaded.

UN officials said they were investigating the attack, which they said could be a crime against humanity.

The UN said in a statement that at least six mortar shells were fired from a nearby military base. About 40 people were wounded. Abidjan, Ivory Coast’s biggest city, has for weeks seen daily battles that have left hundreds dead.

Fresh air strikes hit eastern Libyan towns

Two bombs were dropped on military camps in Ajdabiya, a tribal leader said. Another bomb fell in al-Brega between the oil facility and the airport Thursday, but there were no injuries or damage, witnesses said.
The attacks come a day after ground and air attacks on al-Brega, which has key oil and natural gas facilities.
On Wednesday, aircraft dropped bombs near the town and troops loyal to Moammar Gadhafi launched a ground attack, witnesses said. Aircraft also bombed military camps on the outskirts of Ajdabiya on the same day, witnesses said. ....

Fresh gun battles erupt in Ivory Coast's main city

(Reuters) - Gunfire and explosions shook Ivory Coast's main city Wednesday as forces loyal to Laurent Gbagbo pushed back into an area where gunmen backing his presidential rival repelled them a day before.
"There's firing everywhere. I'm hearing heavy weapons booming all over the place," said one resident of the Abidjan suburb of Abobo, where up to 15 Gbagbo loyalists were killed in an ambush Tuesday.
The clashes between Gbagbo's forces and backers of Alassane Ouattara, following a disputed election in November, threaten to reignite a conflict in the world's biggest cocoa producer and dash hopes of reuniting a country split by a 2002-3 war.
Residents said the fighting stopped after four hours of intense clashes. Pro-Gbagbo forces reported three men killed while there was no immediate comment from Ouattara supporters.

Anti-government protesters rallied in Tripoli's streets, tribal leaders spoke out against Gaddafi, and army units defected to the opposition as oil exporter Libya endured one of the bloodiest revolts to convulse the Arab world.
Gaddafi's son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi appeared on national television in an attempt both to threaten and calm people, saying the army would enforce security at any price.
"Our spirits are high and the leader Muammar Gaddafi is leading the battle in Tripoli, and we are behind him as is the Libyan army," he said. "We will keep fighting until the last man standing, even to the last woman standing ... We will not leave Libya to the Italians or the Turks.

U.N. to send more peacekeepers to Ivory Coast
Civil war anyone? If the Ivory coast ever pops it is going to be a mess, and the U.N. will loose control so fast it will make your head spin.

At least 14,000 people have fled the violence and political chaos in Ivory Coast, some walking for up to four days with little food to reach neighbouring Liberia, the UN refugee agency said. At least one child drowned while trying to cross a river.
The UN has said at least 173 people have died in violence over the disputed presidential run-off election held nearly a month ago. The toll is believed to be much higher, though, as the UN mission has been blocked from investigating other reports including an allegation of a mass grave.
"Food supplies are running short despite efforts by the government and humanitarian agencies to bring in more assistance," the UN refugee agency said in a statement. "Our staff report that host community houses are full and congested. In the area of Butuo, for example, there are homes where seven to 20 family members share a single room, while others sleep in corridors or on verandas."
West African leaders have threatened a military intervention if the man who the UN says lost the election in Ivory Coast does not step down. James Gbeho, president of the regional bloc Ecowas, said the group was making an "ultimate gesture" to Laurent Gbagbo to urge him to make a peaceful exit.

Iraqis fear renewed violence as U.S. disengages
"The U.S. withdrawal from Iraq will pave the way for the violence and sectarian fighting to return.
On one hand they want us to leave , on the other hand they are scared to see us go !
And the way the Iraqi's are so un-willing to wipe their own ass's when it comes to taking control of their own Country , the Violence and Sectarian Fighting will indeed return .

Violence has plunged since the peak of the conflict in 2006-07, but bombings and other attacks occur still daily and Iraqi officials say the civilian death toll rose last month.
Squabbling politicians have been unable to agree on a coalition government since an inconclusive March 7 parliamentary election, raising tensions and opening the way for insurgents.
"The U.S. withdrawal will pave the way for the militias and armed groups to work freely, and they will activate their operations again," said Samer Ahmed, 32, a Baghdad laborer whose brother was killed by militants at the height of Iraq's sectarian warfare in 2007.
"I believe Iraq's security situation will deteriorate severely. A civil war is coming to devour everything in Iraq."
then I would say it is time for the Iraqi's to pull their collective heads out of the sand , and fight for their country .
