(CNN) -- With no heir-apparent to Venezuela's presidency waiting in the wings, politicians are jockeying for power as President Hugo Chavez undergoes medical treatment in Cuba, analysts said.
The Venezuelan leader has kept a notably low profile in the nearly three weeks since officials first announced that doctors operated on him, sparking rampant speculation about his health and the country's political future.
His revelation Thursday night that doctors in Cuba had removed a cancerous tumor is likely to further fuel dissent in the ranks of Chavez's supporters, one former Venezuelan official said.
"The main conflicts are inside the Chavez forces, with different factions, over who is going to be the successor," said Moises Naim, a former Venezuelan trade minister who is a senior associate at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

"We'll show them what we're capable of!" Chavez said, waving a copy of the special "Enabling Law" his Cabinet is preparing to submit to the outgoing parliament on Tuesday.

Venezuela's Chavez alleges $100 million plot to kill him

(Reuters) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez accused a fugitive TV tycoon on Saturday of being involved in a $100 million reward offer for his assassination.
Idolized by supporters among Venezuela's poor but loathed by many in the business class, former soldier Chavez, 56, has frequently alleged plans to kill him during his more than 11 years at the helm of the South American oil-producer.
"As I understand it from very trustworthy information, they say they have $100 million to give the person who kills me," Chavez said, talking of his political foes in general.
He accused the fugitive boss of pro-opposition TV station Globovision, Guillermo Zuloaga, of being one of those behind the plan. Zuloaga fled to the United States earlier this year after being charged with fraud over his car dealership.

Venezuela Studying Nuclear Program
Maybe it is not so much that fruitcakes like Hugo and Ahmadinejad would like to have Nuclear weapons , as it is the thought that third world countries are wanting and Building Nuclear power plants !

Venezuelan website lampoons Latin American leaders
Sounds funny to me , and I bet that Hugo "Fatass" Chavez , is not very pleased about it either !
So we like these guys , with the exception of some very good Catch phrases I have learned in Spanish I am clueless to what is being said , so for those of you who do heres the link to the site !

Juan Andres Ravell and Oswaldo Graziani, former television scriptwriters, say the main aim of their blog, The Bipolar Capybara (www.elchiguirebipolar.com/), is to make people laugh and lighten the polarized political environment.
Their latest creation is "Presidential Island," an animated series on the blog that broadens the satire to other Latin American leaders. The series is a takeoff of the U.S. television drama "Lost" featuring Latin American leaders who are shipwrecked with Chavez on a deserted island.
Chavez and Bolivia's President Evo Morales, the United States' main critics in South America, feast on an American bald eagle, while the king of Spain roasts Chilean leader Michelle Bachelet on a spit.
"Presidential Island" has been a hit in Latin America and has created an international following on Twitter and Facebook for Ravell, 28, and Graziani, 30.
The first episode has had more than 1 million viewers since being posted in February and doubled the traffic to the Bipolar Capybara blog, which takes its name from a large South American rodent.
In episode two, Chavez, who has succeeded Fidel Castro as the region's most verbose leader, bores his peers with a long monologue as they fish from a tree branch. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva dozes off and falls into the sea.
The series also lampoons U.S. President Barack Obama, who appears at the end of the second episode shooting Chavez with a tranquilizer dart from the top of a coconut tree.
"President Chavez's international role is funnier than his domestic one so we are looking for a larger audience," said Ravell, who was inspired by U.S. political humorist Stephen Colbert and the animated television series "South Park."

Chavez Denies He's Trying to Control Internet

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez denied that the government plans to impose controls on the Internet, saying Sunday that his administration aims to increase Web access rather than limit it.
Earlier this month, Chavez sparked concerns of a possible crackdown on Web sites critical of his government when he called for regulation of the Internet and urged prosecutors to act against Noticiero Digital, a site popular among his opponents.
Chavez has become increasingly critical of social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook and says adversaries use them to deceive the public.
On Sunday, speaking during his weekly television and radio show, the socialist leader said the government has inaugurated 668 Internet centers in much of the country that offer Venezuelans access to the Web, and his administration plans to spend close to $11 million this year to build 200 more.
Still, Chavez also told his audience that government critics often use the Web "to generate panic," and said such actions "cannot be permitted."
He announced plans to counter such online criticism by launching his own Web page and becoming a cyber-activist himself: "I'm going to have my Internet trench, my trench for the battle."
The number of Internet subscribers climbed to more than 1.5 million last year in this politically divided South American country of 29 million -- up from about 273,000 nine years ago -- according to Chavez.
He said roughly 35 percent of all Internet users get access to the Web at government centers.

Penn, appearing on HBO's "Real Time with Bill Maher" on Friday, defended Chavez during a segment in which he detailed his work with the JP Haitian Relief Organization, which he co-founded.
"Every day, this elected leader is called a dictator here, and we just accept it, and accept it" said Penn, winner of two Best Actor Academy Awards. "And this is mainstream media, who should -- truly, there should be a bar by which one goes to prison for these kinds of lies."
It was just the beginning of a busy weekend for Penn. When asked on CBS' "Sunday Morning" about those who question his motives for his humanitarian work in Haiti, he said:
"Do I hope that those people die screaming of rectal cancer? Yeah. You know, but I'm not going to spend a lot of energy on it."

What we have is a Humanitarian disaster , We the U.S. coming to help out , along with a lot of other countries !
Then we have the People of Haiti , theirs lives have been changed dramatically in the past week , and they are getting Desperate , So Desperate that Quite a Few of them are running the streets armed and willing to kill for food !
We must protect our people in order to distribute the food and medicine once it gets there , so that OUR people are not killed in a Stampede !
We have done this before Hugo , We Know what we are doing !

"I read that 3,000 soldiers are arriving, Marines armed as if they were going to war. There is not a shortage of guns there, my God. Doctors, medicine, fuel, field hospitals, that's what the United States should send," Chavez said on his weekly television show. "They are occupying Haiti undercover."
"On top of that, you don't see them in the streets. Are they picking up bodies? ... Are they looking for the injured? You don't see them. I haven't seen them. Where are they?"
Chavez promised to send as much gasoline as Haiti needs for electricity generation and transport.
A perennial foe of U.S. "imperialism," Chavez said he did not wish to diminish the humanitarian effort made by the United States and was only questioning the need for so many troops.
The United States is sending more than 5,000 Marines and soldiers to Haiti, and a hospital ship is due to arrive later this week.
The country's president said U.S. troops would help keep order on Haiti's increasingly lawless streets.
Venezuela has sent several planes to Haiti with doctors, aid and some soldiers. A Russia-Venezuela mission was set to leave Venezuela on Monday carrying aid on Russian planes.
Chavez said Venezuela's planes were the first to land in Haiti after Tuesday's 7.0 magnitude earthquake, which wrecked the capital Port-Au-Prince and killed as many as 200,000 people.

Chavez to Troops: Prepare for War With Colombia

CARACAS, Venezuela — President Hugo Chavez on Sunday ordered Venezuela's military to prepare for a possible armed conflict with Colombia, saying his country's soldiers should be ready if the United States attempts to provoke a war between the South American neighbors.
Chavez said Venezuela could end up going to war with Colombia as tensions between them rise, and he warned that if a conflict broke out "it could extend throughout the whole continent."
"The best way to avoid war is preparing for it," Chavez told military officers during his weekly television and radio program. Venezuela's socialist leader has also cited a recent deal between Bogota and Washington giving U.S. troops greater access to military bases as a threat to regional stability.
There was no immediate reaction from either the Colombian or U.S. government, but in the past they have denied intentions to start a war with Venezuela and said the base deal is needed to fight the war on drugs and insurgents in Colombia, which is a major cocaine producer struggling with a decades-old internal conflict.
Tensions along the Venezuela-Colombia border have been exacerbated in recent weeks by a series of shootings and slayings.
Four men on motorcycles shot and killed two Venezuelan National Guard troops at a checkpoint near the border in Venezuela's western Tachira state last week, prompting Chavez's government to temporarily close some border crossings.
And last month, Venezuelan authorities arrested at least 10 people in Tachira alleging involvement in paramilitary groups. The bullet-ridden bodies of 11 men, nine of them Colombians, were also found last month in Tachira after being abducted from a soccer field.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuela's socialist leader Hugo Chavez said on Sunday that U.S. President Barack Obama had done nothing beyond wishful thinking to earn the Nobel Peace Prize.
Chavez, who has mixed praise for Obama personally with criticism of his government's "imperialist" policies, said he thought it was a mistake when he read the U.S. leader had won.
"What has Obama done to deserve this prize? The jury put store on his hope for a nuclear arms-free world, forgetting his role in perpetuating his battalions in Iraq and Afghanistan, and his decision to install new military bases in Colombia," Chavez wrote in a column.
"For the first time, we are witnessing an award with the nominee having done nothing to deserve it: rewarding someone for a wish that is very far from becoming reality."
Chavez said giving Obama the Nobel award was like giving a baseball pitcher a prize simply for saying he was going to win 50 games and strike out 500 batters.

CARACAS (Reuters) - U.S. President Barack Obama is "lost in the Andromeda" galaxy on Latin American policy, his chief critic in the region, Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez, said on Sunday, while demanding the closure of U.S. military bases.
Last week Obama said critics of U.S. involvement in Latin America who are now asking Washington to do more to restore the ousted president of Honduras "can't have it both ways."
"We are not asking you to intervene in Honduras, Obama. On the contrary, we are asking that "the empire" get its hands off Honduras and get its claws out of Latin America," Chavez said in a rambling weekly television and radio show.
"President Obama is lost in the Andromeda Nebula, he has lost his bearings, he doesn't get it," he said.
Chavez repeated an accusation that the United States had prior knowledge of the coup that deposed Honduran President Manuel Zelaya on June 28 and the military plane that flew Zelaya out of the country had used a U.S. base in Honduras.

Venezuela begins shutdown of 34 radio stations

CARACAS, Aug 1 Reuters - More than a dozen of 34 radio stations ordered shut by the Venezuelan government went off the air on Saturday, part of President Hugo Chavez's drive to extend his socialist revolution to the media.
The association of radio broadcasters said 13 stations had stopped transmitting, following an announcement Friday night by government broadcasting watchdog Conatel that 34 radio outlets would be closed because they failed to comply with regulations.
Critics said the crackdown infringed on freedom of speech and that owners were not given the right to a proper defense.
"They're closing the space for dissidents in Venezuela," William Echeverria, head of the National Council of Journalists, told RCTV, a private cable TV station, which did not have its broadcasting license renewed in 2007.
Chavez defended the closures, calling them part of the government's effort to democratize the airwaves.

Chavez threatens military action over Honduras coup

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday put
troops on alert after a coup in Honduras and said he would respond
militarily if his envoy to the Central American country was kidnapped
or killed.
Chavez said Honduran
soldiers took away the Cuban ambassador and left the Venezuelan
ambassador on the side of a road after beating him during the army's
coup against his leftist ally, Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.
The
Honduran army ousted Zelaya and exiled him in Central America's first
military coup since the Cold War, after he upset the army by trying to
win re-election.
Chavez said on
state television if his ambassador to Venezuela was killed, or if
troops entered the Venezuelan Embassy, "that military junta would be
entering a de facto state of war. We would have to act militarily ... I
have put the armed forces of Venezuela on alert."
Ecuadorean
President Rafael Correa, part of a coalition of leftist governments
headed by Chavez that includes Honduras, said he would support military
action if Ecuador's diplomats or those of its allies were threatened.

Venezuela soldiers seize oil service companies
Tightening his grip ! To say the least ! How about further Establishing Communism ? Isn't that more like what he is doing !
MARACAIBO, Venezuela (Reuters) - Venezuelan soldiers on Thursday took control of boatyards and other assets belonging to oil service companies in the latest step by socialist President Hugo Chavez to tighten his grip on the industry.
Earlier in the day, Venezuela's legislature approved a law allowing the nationalization of a group of oil service companies. Chavez said the takeovers would quickly start in the Lake Maracaibo oil heartland in the western state of Zulia.
"Tomorrow, we will start to recuperate assets and goods that will now belong to the state, as social property, as they should always have been," Chavez said, adding that thousands of workers would be taken on by state oil company PDVSA.
But members of a Zulia business group that represents local oil firms told Reuters soldiers seized the installations of 20 companies on the eastern side of the lake late on Thursday.
The law makes it easier for the government to later seize assets owned by service giants such as Halliburton and Schlumberger as state oil company PDVSA builds up billions of dollars in debts with contractors amid low oil prices.
The socialist president nationalized oil projects worth billions of dollars two years ago and is now moving against smaller service companies that the government has struggled to pay as crude revenues fell in recent months.

Communism does not work ! never has never will !
I think that the Democrats should pay close attention to their beloved Communist countries they hold in high praise, and see that the programs they support DON"T WORK!
As for Hugo I hope that he is on the receiving end of a civilian uprising and gets his fat ass spanked out of power !

SAN FELIX, Venezuela (Reuters) - Despite having some of the world's largest energy reserves, Venezuela is increasingly struggling to maintain basic electrical service, a growing challenge for leftist President Hugo Chavez.
The OPEC nation has suffered three nationwide blackouts this year, and chronic power shortages have sparked protests from the western Andean highlands to San Felix, a city of mostly poor industrial workers in the sweltering south.
Shoddy electrical service is now one of Venezuelans' top concerns, according to a recent poll, and may be a factor in elections next month for governors and mayors in which Chavez allies are expected to lose key posts, in part on complaints of poor services.
The problem suggests that Chavez, with his ambitious international alliances and promises to end capitalism, risks alienating supporters by failing to focus on basic issues like electricity, trash collection and law enforcement.
"With so much energy in Venezuela, how can we be without power?" asked Fernando Aponte, 49, whose slum neighborhood of Las Delicias in San Felix spent 15 days without electricity -- leading him to block a nearby avenue with burning tires in protest.
Just next door, Carmen Fernandez, 82, who is blind and has a pacemaker, says she has trouble sleeping through sultry nights without even a fan to cool her.
Experts say Venezuela for years has skimped billions of dollars in electrical investments, leaving generation 20 percent below the level necessary for a stable power grid and increasing the risk of national outages. Officially Venezuela has a capacity of 22,500 megawatts for a population of 28 million people, but a sizeable proportion is not working, analysts say.
And while Chavez has won praise for investing in health and education, his government has done little to repair local distribution systems that deliver electricity to end users, from barrio residents to business and industries.
'GOD HEARD ME'
Pastora Medina, a legislator representing San Felix and nearby cities suffering chronic power problems, this month tried to bring the issue up in the national Congress in Caracas, but the legislature's leadership refused to let her speak.
Several hours later, as the legislature discussed a South American integration plan created by Chavez, Congress itself lost power for around 10 minutes.
