Always good news to hear that Iran has some problems, their missile making facility was leveled last month buy a Mysterious explosion.

A recent explosion at a military base near Tehran was a major setback for Iran's long-range missile program and completely destroyed the base, according to American and Israeli intelligence officials, the New York Times reported on Monday.

The officials said that surveillance photos showed that the Iranian base was a central testing center for advanced solid-fuel missiles, which are better equipped than older, liquid-fuel designs to carry warheads long distances.

According to the report, satellite photos taken after the blast show that the base was almost completely destroyed, which amounts to a serious setback to Tehran's missile development, intelligence officials said.

An Egyptian-brokered truce appeared to be taking hold on Sunday after a weekend of escalating violence between Israel and militants in the Gaza left nine Palestinian gunmen and an Israeli civilian dead.

Three rockets were fired at Israel after the 6 A.M. starting time for the truce, the Israeli military said. Two were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile shield and another struck the south, causing no casualties or damage.

But the area fell quiet shortly after those attacks and by the afternoon no new violence was reported.

Israel’s effort last year to stop a flotilla of ships from reaching the Gaza Strip was legal, though the way it was carried out was “excessive and unreasonable,” the United Nations said in a report.

“Israel’s decision to board the vessels with such substantial force at a great distance from the blockade zone and with no final warning immediately prior to the boarding was excessive and unreasonable,” according to the 105-page report obtained by the New York Times and posted on its website. The UN said Israel’s naval blockade was legal, so “it follows that Israel was also entitled to enforce it.”

The Israeli raid on May 31, 2010, on vessels attempting to breach the blockade of the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip left nine Turkish citizens dead, generated international criticism and prompted Turkey to suspend diplomatic and security cooperation. Turkey was once Israel’s closest ally in the region.

The release of the report, which has been held back, may do little to heal relations between nations. Turkey’s position is that both the Israeli maritime blockade of Gaza and the attack on the aid flotilla were unlawful.

Both countries were rebuked in the investigation.

The U.S. and Israel are closely monitoring Syria's suspected cache of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), fearing that terror groups could take advantage of the revolt against President Bashar al Assad to obtain blistering agents, nerve gas and long-range missiles, according to officials from both countries.

U.S. intelligence services believe Syria's non-conventional weapons programs include significant stockpiles of mustard gas, VX and Sarin gas and the missile and artillery systems to deliver them, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

United Nations investigators also recently concluded that Damascus had been secretly constructing a nuclear reactor with North Korean help before Israeli jets destroyed the site in late 2007. U.S. and U.N. nonproliferation officials continue to worry that Pyongyang may have provided Syria with additional nuclear-related equipment.

"We are very concerned about the status of Syria's WMD, including chemical weapons," Israel's ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, said in an interview. "Together with the U.S. administration, we are watching this situation very carefully."

The Islamic Jihad organization announced a new ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip early Friday morning.

According to sources in Gaza the ceasefire was brokered by Egypt and the UN.

The ceasefire has already begun, according to Israel Radio.

Nafaz Azam, one of the organization's leaders in the Gaza Strip, made the statement, which was unexpected, as earlier Thursday the terrorist group had vowed to extend the range of their rocket capabilities, sending projectiles deeper into Israeli territory.

According to Islamic Jihad, a small terrorist group with roots in the Muslim Brotherhood, it would triple the number of Israelis affected by rocket attacks.

This announcement came as the South braced for a weekend of violence as rocket fire intensified on Thursday and the IDF struck back, killing two terrorists in the Gaza Strip.

At least 15 rockets and mortar shells pounded southern Israel, hitting open areas near Ashkelon and in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council. A mortar shell struck the Erez crossing, which is frequently used by Palestinians to enter Israel for medical treatments, causing extensive damage.

Amazingly enough, a current member of the Security Council – Lebanon – prevented the condemnation from coming to fruition.

The Lebanese demanded a toned down, more “balanced” denunciation that includes criticism of Israeli retaliatory strikes in Gaza. It did not matter that the IDF responded by attacking legitimate targets – leaders of the terror group that executed the attacks, weapons compounds, smuggling tunnels and rocket and mortar cells aiming to kill Jews indiscriminately. No condemnation was issued, and no one blinked an eye.

The Arab League also announced an emergency session over Israeli retaliation in the Strip. Apparently, the death of some murderers was a more pressing affair than the thousands of casualties in Syria, ongoing riots in Yemen, and the civil war in Libya.

The Palestinian Authority, as usual, issued a lackadaisical rebuke of the loss of innocent life, while focusing on punitive anti-Israel censure. This leadership is expected to lead a Palestinian statehood bid in September, despite the absence of even a semblance of government unity, adequate control over terror groups, undefined borders, massive corruption and economic mismanagement. Still, the world doesn’t seem to mind too much.

Israel has set up a military cyber command to wage a computer war againstIran as senior officers become increasingly concerned that a conventional attack on Tehran’s nuclear sites could end in failure, London's The Sunday Times reported.

The new cyber command will report directly to Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu who has placed the program at the heart of Israel’s defense capability.

“Israel must turn into a global cyber superpower,” he told a meeting of cyber warfare experts recently.

The center, which has been set up under the auspices of military intelligence unit 8200 has already conducted a series of “soft” espionage missions, including hacking into Iran’s version of Facebook and other social networking sites.

The Stuxnet malware virus, which dramatically affected Iran’s nuclear program in 2009 by sabotaging the delicate centrifuges needed to enrich uranium, is widely believed to have been developed by Israeli and American technicians.

The foreign airlines operating in Israel say they will have a hard time flying large groups of people who were refused entry into the country back to their destinations of origin.

A senior official for one of the large European carriers told Haaretz on Saturday that "The airlines will have a hard time dealing all at once with large groups of pro-Palestinian activists that Israel wants to deport."

"We're talking about the peak of summer traveling season and the flights are full. We'll have to act accordingly and make different preparations, but first of all, we'll have to receive instructions from the head of the aviation authority in Israel for the deportation of the activists," he said.

"At present, we are unprepared to deal with this, in terms of human resources and in terms of amount of planes," the official added.

The authorities are expected to deport more than 100 pro-Palestinian activists that landed at Ben Gurion airport in the past few days. The last group of 35 activists landed on Friday just before midnight on a Lufthansa flight from Farnkfurt, and were transferred to a police detention facility.

About 10 of the protesters killed in Sunday's clashes were killed "as a result of their own activity," Lt. Col. Avital Leibovich, an Israeli military spokeswoman, told CNN Monday.

The protests came on the anniversary of the 1967 Middle East War, when Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria. The Israel Defense Forces said that Israeli troops used tear gas and live ammunition on members of an "angered mob."

A group of protesters near the Kuneitra border crossing threw fire bombs that detonated a number of old landmines that had been placed in the area, Leibovich said. The resulting explosions, she said, led to the death of some of the protesters.

Leibovich said the information was based on intelligence assessments and reports from Israeli military commanders on the ground.Syrian state media reported 23 protesters were killed by Israeli soldiers opening fire on demonstrators.

MOSCOW – An Israeli Cabinet minister said the civilized world must take joint action to avert the Iranian nuclear threat, including a pre-emptive strike if necessary.

Moshe Yaalon — the minister for strategic affairs — made the statement in an interview with Russia's Interfax news agency released Monday ahead of a visit to Moscow.

"We strongly hope that the entire civilized world will come to realize what threat this regime is posing and take joint action to avert the nuclear threat posed by Iran, even if it would be necessary to conduct a pre-emptive strike," Yaalon was quoted by Interfax as saying.

Yaalon wouldn't discuss who might deal the strike, saying the entire world, not just Israel, must be concerned about the danger posed by a nuclear-armed Iran.

"An Iran possessing nuclear weapons would be a threat to the entire civilized world," he was reported as saying.

Yaalon's spokesman Ofer Harel told The Associated Press later Monday that the minister was repeating Israel's position that all options are on the table and not calling for anybody to attack Iran

Palestinian officials have dismissed Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to the US Congress, saying it will not lead to peace.

A spokesman for Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas said Mr Netanyahu had created "more obstacles".

Mr Netanyahu had told the US Congress that Israel was "willing to make painful compromises" to achieve peace.

But he rejected US President Barack Obama's call for a peace deal based on pre-1967 borders, plus land swaps.

Reacting to the speech, Abbas spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said: "What came in Netanyahu's speech will not lead to peace".

He said there was "nothing new" in the speech, "except that he is adding obstacles on the road towards a genuine, serious, lasting and comprehensive peace".

Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said the speech proved Israel could not be a partner for peace in the region.

Mr Erekat said Mr Netanyahu was seeking to "dictate the results" of negotiations before they had begun.

The Israeli delegation to the United Nations announced Monday that it will file a complaint to the UN Security Council against Syria and Lebanon regarding Sunday's Nakba Day border clashes, Army Radio reported.

Israel said it wants to file a complaint against Syria and Lebanon for violating international law and violating UN Security Council resolutions when Nakba Day protesters from Syria and Lebanon clashed with IDF forces and infiltrated into Israel.

Earlier, the Lebanese delegation to the UN filed a complaint against Israel after the Lebanese army said that 10 people were killed and 112 were wounded in Maroun a-Ras when IDF troops opened fire on demonstrators trying to cross the border.

Beirut officials called on the UN to "denounce this act of violence and Israel's disregard for Lebanese sovereignty and UN resolutions."

Two demonstrators were killed in clashes near Majdal Shams on the Syrian border and between three and 10 people were killed in Maroun a-Ras on the Lebanese border.

It's not clear whether Western powers would deal with the new government that is to emerge from the unity deal. They've said they are waiting to see its composition.
