China strongly objects to Obama-Dalai meeting

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said, through a written statement released early Sunday morning, that such an act grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, hurts the feelings of Chinese people, and damages Sino-American relations.

BEIJING, July 17 (Xinhuanet) -- China has voiced its strong indignation, and stern objection, to US President Barack Obama's Saturday meeting with the Dalai Lama, while demanding the American side adopt immediate measures to negate the impact.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said, through a written statement released early Sunday morning, that such an act grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, hurts the feelings of Chinese people, and damages Sino-American relations.

Ma urged the US to seriously consider China's stance, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and cease supporting separatist forces seeking Tibet independence.
